Workspitality

What is it?

All about workspitality

"Workspitality" is a combination of "work" and "hospitality", and refers to a unique approach to work. It draws on the codes of the hospitality industry to create work experiences that combine practicality and comfort.

Workspitality: the influence of the hospitality industry

The term "workspitality" was introduced in 2017 by French hotel group Accor. Work hospitality or workspitality uses the codes of the hotel industry to improve employee productivity and well-being.

A trend propelled by the pandemic

In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic forced hotels to reinvent themselves. With tourism down sharply, the hotel industry turned to a new target: teleworkers.

Hotel establishments have thus adapted to offer comfortable, user-friendly and well-appointed workspaces . Hotel rooms have been completely refurbished to become closed offices, with high-quality ergonomic furniture. Hotels have focused on flexibility and employee well-being.

Workspitality and employee well-being

For almost 50% of employees, the workspace has a very strong influence on health and well-being. Designing workspaces with the level of quality and service offered by the hospitality industry can therefore contribute to employee satisfaction.

workspitality adopts hotel standards of comfort and service to create exceptional work experiences. It meets the needs of workers who want to evolve in :

  • an adaptable and innovative environment;
  • pleasant, flexible spaces ;
  • shared spaces that encourage social interaction.

Since the health crisis, workspitality is still going strong. In particular, it meets a growing demand for flexible office space for teleworkers.

Characteristics of workspitality

Workspace design

Workspitality is a concept that begins with the design of workspaces. The aim is to create the perfect workspace to provide users with the best possible working conditions.

Within the framework of workspitality, 3 principles guide the design of these spaces:

  1. Prioritize comfort.
    From office chairs to sofas, all furniture must be chosen with care to create a comfortable working environment.
  2. Segment workspaces by activity.
    It is essential to respond to the different uses of teleworkers. Offer open spaces to encourage interaction. Provide enclosed offices for confidential activities and concentration needs. Provide meeting rooms for quiet gatherings. Provide relaxation areas to unwind.
  3. Offer a complete range of equipment.
    Workers need all the equipment they need to work in good conditions. This includes a fast, flawless Wi-Fi connection and easy access to electrical outlets.

Hotel-style service offerings

workspitality is a remote working experience that integrates amenities focused on the well-being and comfort of users. It includes many of the services traditionally offered by hotels:

  • catering services, also known as Food & Beverage (F&B);
  • concierge service;
  • wellness areas (spa, gym, etc.);
  • leisure areas (games, relaxation area, etc.).

The idea is to offer a wide range of services to meet every worker's needs. Some of these services can be set up in the context of hybrid working, to offer this experience to remote employees.

Workspitality, a new way of working inspired by the world of hotels, enables companies to meet the needs of remote workers, improving productivity and well-being at work.
